In short: cancel through the same place you subscribed: the app store, the website or your carrier bill. Refunds for the current period depend on the provider's terms and local law. App store purchases are refunded by the store, not by the app developer.
Step 1: find out who bills you
Check your bank or card statement. The merchant name tells you where to go:
- Apple (for example "APPLE.COM/BILL"): the subscription was bought through Apple.
- Google (for example "Google Play"): it was bought through Google Play.
- The service's own name: manage it on the service's website.
Step 2: cancel
Cancelling usually stops the next renewal. You can normally keep using the service until the end of the period you've paid for.
Step 3: ask for a refund if you're entitled
- Apple: request refunds at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Google Play: request refunds through Google Play's refund process.
- Direct subscriptions: contact the provider in writing. In the EU and UK, the 14-day cancellation right often applies to new subscriptions bought online, though for digital content you may lose it once you start streaming or downloading with your consent.
Unexpected charges after a free trial
If you were charged after a trial you'd cancelled, or the cancellation process was unclear, ask the provider for a refund. If it refuses, consider a dispute with your card issuer. See chargebacks explained.
