Hotel, booking and travel refunds
Hotel cancellations, booking platforms, package holidays, travel agents and travel insurance.
Short answer: for hotels and rentals, the rate you booked usually decides your refund. Refundable rates can be cancelled until a deadline; non-refundable rates usually can't.
Package holidays are different. In the EU and UK they carry extra legal protection, including a refund when the organiser cancels. The hotel and booking cancellations guide explains your options.
