Flight compensation checker

Enter your flight to see which passenger-rights rules may apply, what you could claim, and how to claim it. Free, with no sign-up.

How the checker works

Each set of rules has its own scope. EU261 covers flights departing the EU, and flights arriving there on EU airlines. UK261 covers flights departing the UK, and arrivals on UK and EU airlines. Canada's APPR covers flights to, from and within Canada. US DOT rules cover refunds on flights to, from and within the United States. The checker tests your flight against each set of rules separately and shows every one that may apply.

Distances use the great-circle method that EU and UK regulators use. Every result links to the official source and shows when we last reviewed the rules. Read more in our editorial methodology.

Frequently asked questions

Is the result a guarantee that I'll be paid?

No. The checker applies the published rules to the facts you enter. Whether compensation is owed often depends on the cause of the disruption, which the airline must explain and, in some cases, prove.

Do you store my flight details?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent to RefundFact or anyone else.

What is the difference between a refund and compensation?

A refund returns what you paid for a flight you didn't take. Compensation is a fixed extra amount for the inconvenience, available under some laws, including EU261, UK261 and Canada's APPR.
